Madras High School’s track and field program is heading to the OSAA State Track and Field Championships with a record-breaking 17 qualifiers — the most athletes the school has sent to state in recent memory, according to reporting by Central Oregon Daily.
The team also qualified five alternates, giving the White Buffalos a deep presence at the state meet. The achievement caps what appears to be an exceptional regular season for the program.
A Milestone for the Program
Qualifying 17 individual athletes for state is a significant benchmark for a school the size of Madras, which competes in Oregon’s smaller classification tiers. Track and field state qualifiers are determined by finishing in the top positions at district or regional qualifying meets, meaning each of the 17 athletes earned their spot through competitive performance against peers from across their classification.
The accomplishment reflects sustained investment in the athletic program and strong individual performances across multiple events — sprints, distance, field events, or some combination. For student athletes from Jefferson County, reaching the state championships is a major individual milestone and represents the county on a statewide stage.
What’s Next
The OSAA State Track and Field Championships are typically held in late May or early June at a venue in the Willamette Valley. Madras athletes will compete against qualifiers from across Oregon in their classification.
Full results and event details will be available through the Oregon School Activities Association at osaa.org. The Madras Bulletin will have coverage as results come in from the state meet.
Congratulations to all 17 Madras qualifiers and their coaches. Jefferson County is proud of you.
