Jefferson County’s business community turned out strong last week for the return of the Made in Jefferson County Tour, an EDCO-organized event that brings visitors inside local manufacturing and agricultural operations to see what’s grown and made right here in the high desert.
Held on June 18, the tour drew 60 participants — a turnout EDCO representative Brenna Fulks called a success, noting that between 60 and 70 percent of attendees came from outside the area. The tour had been on hiatus for several years, making this year’s revival especially meaningful for local business boosters.
Three Stops, Three Stories
This year’s tour visited three distinctly different Jefferson County operations:
- Central Oregon Seeds — a seed production company highlighting the region’s role as one of Oregon’s premier agricultural areas for specialty seed crops
- Keith Manufacturing — a Madras-based manufacturer showcasing the industrial side of Jefferson County’s economy
- Poland Organic Dairy — a family dairy operation reflecting the county’s strong ranching and dairy heritage
Together, the three stops paint a picture of a county that grows, makes, and ships products consumed far beyond its borders.
Why It Matters
EDCO — the Economic Development for Central Oregon — uses tours like this one to build regional pride, attract new investment, and connect outside businesses and talent with local employers. Jefferson County has historically been underrepresented in Central Oregon’s economic development narrative, which has tended to focus on Bend and Redmond.
The strong out-of-area attendance is a promising sign that Jefferson County’s manufacturing and agricultural sectors are garnering real interest from investors, job seekers, and entrepreneurs beyond the county line.
Looking Forward
EDCO plans to continue the tour in future years. Local business owners interested in participating as a host site for future tours can contact EDCO’s Jefferson County representative for more information. The tour is part of a broader effort to promote Jefferson County as a destination for economic investment and quality rural living.
