One of Central Oregon's most meaningful and culturally significant annual events returns to Warm Springs this month. The Pi-Ume-Sha Treaty Days celebration takes place June 26–28, 2026, hosted by the Confederated Tribes of Warm Springs at the Pi-Ume-Sha Grounds behind the Warm Springs Community Center.
The multi-day gathering commemorates the Treaty of 1855, which established the Warm Springs Reservation and secured the tribe's rights to traditional hunting, fishing, and gathering grounds. For the Confederated Tribes — made up of the Warm Springs, Wasco, and Paiute peoples — Pi-Ume-Sha is both a cultural celebration and a living affirmation of sovereignty and treaty rights.
What to Expect
Pi-Ume-Sha features a full program of events across all three days:
- Powwow — Traditional dance competitions with drum groups, intertribal dancing, and regalia representing tribes from across the Pacific Northwest and beyond
- Grand Parade — A community procession through Warm Springs
- Stick Games — Traditional hand games, a beloved competitive tradition among Plateau peoples
- Open Rodeo — Saturday and Sunday, June 27–28, starting at 1 p.m. both days at the Warm Springs Rodeo Grounds. Sunday features the Youth Open Rodeo
- Food vendors and community booths — Traditional and contemporary food, crafts, and cultural displays
Open to the Public
Pi-Ume-Sha Treaty Days is open to visitors from outside the reservation. The event welcomes neighbors, tourists, and anyone interested in learning about Warm Springs culture and history. Attendees are asked to be respectful observers, follow any posted guidelines regarding photography and ceremony, and support tribal vendors.
Getting There
Warm Springs is located approximately 11 miles north of Madras via U.S. Highway 26. Travelers should be aware that highway delays of 20 minutes or more are still possible along Highway 26 through the Warm Springs corridor due to ongoing hazard tree removal, expected to wrap up around June 15. Plan travel accordingly.
Pi-Ume-Sha Treaty Days is free to attend. For more information, contact the Confederated Tribes of Warm Springs at warmsprings-nsn.gov or tune in to KWSO 91.9 FM, the tribe's community radio station, for updates.
