Oregon residents have a free day at state parks coming up: the Oregon Parks and Recreation Department will waive day-use parking fees for Oregon residents on Friday, June 6, 2026, as part of the annual State Parks Day celebration.

Three Central Oregon state parks are hosting special events that day, according to Central Oregon Daily. While full event details were still being announced as of this week, the free parking and activities make it a natural outing for Jefferson County families heading into the summer.

Parks Near Jefferson County

Several Oregon State Parks are within easy reach of Jefferson County residents:

  • Cove Palisades State Park — Located just west of Madras at Lake Billy Chinook, the reservoir created by Round Butte Dam. Boating, camping, fishing, and dramatic canyon views. One of Oregon’s most popular state parks.
  • Prineville Reservoir State Park — In neighboring Crook County, about 20 miles east of Prineville. Boating, fishing, and camping.

How to Participate

The fee waiver applies to the standard day-use parking fees at Oregon state parks on June 6. Overnight camping fees and reservations are not affected. Oregon residents do not need to bring proof of residency, but the fee waiver is intended for in-state visitors.

Camping reservations at Cove Palisades and other popular Central Oregon parks book up quickly in summer — if you’re planning an overnight trip, reserve early at oregonstateparks.org or through ReserveAmerica.

State Parks Day is part of Oregon’s annual celebration of its state park system, which spans more than 250 parks, trails, and natural areas across the state.
