Mark your calendars: the 26th Annual Bright Wood Airshow of the Cascades is coming to Madras on August 28 and 29, 2026 — and organizers have confirmed a headliner that’s sure to draw crowds from across the Pacific Northwest.
The U.S. Navy F-18 Growler Demonstration Team has officially confirmed its performance at Madras Municipal Airport. The EA-18G Growler is the Navy’s premier electronic attack aircraft, an evolved descendant of the legendary F/A-18 Hornet — and watching one demonstrate its capabilities at low altitude over the high desert is an experience unlike anything else.
Oregon’s Largest Annual Air Show
The Airshow of the Cascades consistently bills itself as the largest aviation festival in Oregon, drawing tens of thousands of visitors over the two-day weekend. The event is organized by a large group of volunteers and operated as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit, with proceeds supporting aviation education and the broader Madras community.
The airshow takes place at Madras Municipal Airport (KMFR), located just north of downtown Madras. In addition to military demonstrations, the show typically features vintage warbirds, aerobatic performers, static aircraft displays, food vendors, and family activities.
Economic Impact for Madras
The airshow is one of Jefferson County’s most significant economic events of the year. Hotels, RV parks, restaurants, and businesses across Madras and the surrounding area see a major surge during airshow weekend, with visitors coming from Bend, Portland, and beyond.
This year’s headliner — the Navy Growler team — is expected to drive even higher attendance than typical years. Military aviation demonstrations of this caliber are relatively rare at regional airshows, making Madras a destination for serious aviation enthusiasts.
Vendor and Volunteer Opportunities
Vendor registration for the 2026 airshow is currently open. Organizers note that most vendors return annually, but new food, non-food, and community vendors are always welcome. Visit cascadeairshow.com for vendor registration details.
Volunteers are also a critical part of making the event happen. The Airshow of the Cascades relies on hundreds of community volunteers each year. Interested residents can sign up through the airshow website.
