Tonight marks the final evening of the 2026 Jefferson County Fair & Rodeo, and after four days of livestock shows, 4-H exhibits, carnival rides, and arena action, Jefferson County is calling the fair a success — even if it had to compete with a sky full of wildfire smoke.
The fair, themed “Red, White & Blue — This Fair’s For You!” and presented by Brightwood, NextEra Energy, and TS&S Ford, opened Wednesday, July 22 at the Jefferson County Event Complex in Madras and runs through tonight, Saturday, July 25.
Families Showed Up
Opening day drew families from across Jefferson County and beyond, with fairgoers streaming into the grounds despite a haze of smoke from the Brewer, Ten Mile, and other regional wildfires. For many, the fair was both a tradition and a welcome break from an anxiety-inducing fire season.
Youth exhibitors — many of them 4-H and FFA members who have spent months raising and training their animals — were front and center throughout the week. Livestock judging events drew competitive entries from young people across the county, a reminder that agriculture remains central to Jefferson County’s identity even as the region’s demographics continue to evolve.
Rodeo Action
The rodeo drew strong crowds to the arena for events including bull riding, barrel racing, saddle bronc, bareback riding, tie-down roping, steer wrestling, and team roping. Tonight’s closing performance begins at the Event Complex — gates open in the early evening and the arena fills fast, so attendees are encouraged to arrive early and grab their seats.
Vendors, Entertainment, and More
Throughout the week, local and regional vendors filled the fairgrounds with food, artisan goods, and entertainment. Live music has been a nightly draw, and the carnival midway kept kids busy between events. The fair has historically been one of the largest community gatherings in Jefferson County, drawing attendance from Culver, Metolius, Crooked River Ranch, and throughout the region.

For an area that has been under fire watches, evacuation orders, and air quality alerts for much of the past two weeks, the fair offered something rare: a reason to gather, celebrate, and remember why this community matters. Youth exhibitors still put their best animals forward. Neighbors still found each other in the midway crowd. Rodeo stock still bucked under the arena lights.
That continuity — fair to fair, year to year — is exactly what Jefferson County’s summer calendar is built on.
