The Jefferson County Event Complex is heading into fair season with some extra financial firepower. The complex recently secured more than $62,500 in combined grant funding from Visit Central Oregon and St. Charles Health System, with improvements planned for the Corwin Arena, youth programming, and visitor safety infrastructure.

Visit Central Oregon Future Fund: $48,000

The largest grant — $48,000 from Visit Central Oregon's Future Fund — will support the complex's Infrastructure Improvement Project. The funding will be directed specifically toward upgrading the Corwin Arena and expanding the Cowdeo, the complex's annual youth rodeo event.

"This funding will help enhance regional event capacity, improve visitor access and strengthen the growing tourism economy in Jefferson County," the complex said in a press release.

Visit Central Oregon CEO Scott Larson emphasized the long-term vision behind the grant: "ensuring that our destination remains strong for future generations of residents and visitors alike."

St. Charles Health System: Three Grants Totaling $14,500

St. Charles Health System contributed three separate grants to the complex:

  • $10,000 for a Wayfinding and Code of Conduct Signage project
  • $3,000 for the Cowdeo youth rodeo
  • $1,500 for the Event Safety and EMT Support Program

"These contributions further bolster safety resources, community engagement and the preservation of Jefferson County's rich rodeo heritage," the complex said.

Part of a Larger Funding Surge

The new grants come on the heels of a strong stretch of financial momentum for the fairgrounds. Earlier this year, new state legislation allocated additional lottery funding to county fairs statewide — Jefferson County expects to receive roughly $150,000 annually through that program. The complex was also recently featured in a national agriculture and event magazine.

Complex manager Bart Platt said the resources will directly improve what visitors and community members experience. "This investment helps us continue strengthening our facilities for emergency situations, enhancing visitor experiences and supporting the vibrant community events that make Jefferson County such a special place," Platt said.

The Jefferson County Fair is one of the county's signature annual events, drawing visitors from across Central Oregon and beyond. The Cowdeo youth rodeo, in particular, has become a beloved tradition for families throughout Jefferson County.
