The Jefferson County Event Complex has secured more than $62,500 in new grant funding, with money earmarked for facility upgrades at Corwin Arena, expanded support for the Cowdeo youth rodeo, and a new wayfinding and signage system across the grounds.

The largest chunk — a $48,000 grant from Visit Central Oregon's Future Fund — will support the complex's Infrastructure Improvement Project, focused specifically on Corwin Arena and the Cowdeo, a popular annual youth rodeo that draws competitors and families from across Jefferson County and Central Oregon.

"This funding will help enhance regional event capacity, improve visitor access and strengthen the growing tourism economy in Jefferson County," the complex said in a press release.

Visit Central Oregon Backing

Visit Central Oregon CEO Scott Larson said the grant reflects the organization's commitment to the region's long-term vitality. The investment is "focused on ensuring that our destination remains strong for future generations of residents and visitors alike."

Bart Platt, the Event Complex's manager, said the improvements will serve both emergency situations and everyday community events. "This investment helps us continue strengthening our facilities for emergency situations, enhancing visitor experiences and supporting the vibrant community events that make Jefferson County such a special place," Platt said. "We're grateful for the partnership and excited for what's ahead."

St. Charles Provides Three Additional Grants

St. Charles Health System contributed $14,500 across three separate grants:

  • $10,000 for a Wayfinding & Code of Conduct Signage project
  • $3,000 for the Cowdeo youth rodeo
  • $1,500 for the Event Safety & EMT Support Program

"These contributions further bolster safety resources, community engagement and the preservation of Jefferson County's rich rodeo heritage," the press release noted.

A Momentum-Building Year for the Complex

The grants come during what has been a banner stretch for the Event Complex. Earlier this spring, the Jefferson County Fair was featured in a national magazine, and new state legislation increased lottery allocations to fairgrounds statewide — meaning the complex is also seeing a boost from that funding stream.

The Cowdeo, which takes place annually at the complex, is one of Jefferson County's signature youth events, drawing young riders and families from across the region. Improvements to both the arena and the rodeo infrastructure are expected to increase capacity and improve the overall experience for participants and spectators.

The Jefferson County Event Complex hosts dozens of events throughout the year, including the Jefferson County Fair & Rodeo, one of the largest annual gatherings in Central Oregon. Community members interested in upcoming events can visit the complex's website or follow their social media pages for scheduling updates.
