Downtown Madras is throwing it back to the era of flip phones, low-rise jeans, and TRL on Friday, June 5 when the Madras Downtown Association hosts its June First Thursday event with an Early 2000s theme.

The free, family-friendly event runs from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Fifth and Sixth streets between C and E streets in downtown Madras. It is open to all ages and free to attend.

What to Expect

  • Live music setting the Y2K vibe
  • Food vendors with plenty of options for dinner
  • Local shopping at downtown boutiques and pop-up vendors
  • Costume contest for the best early 2000s look

The Madras Downtown Association is encouraging attendees to rock their best throwback fashion. Think denim-on-denim, butterfly clips, bedazzled everything, Von Dutch hats, velour tracksuits, and anything else that screams the early 2000s. The more committed the look, the better your chances in the costume contest.

Part of a Themed Summer Series

The June event is part of the Downtown Association's 2026 First Thursday summer series, each month featuring a different decade theme and a lively street fair atmosphere. Past themes this year included an 80s Night in May. Coming up: a Glitz and Glam Fourth of July theme on July 3, Pin-ups and Hot Rods on August 7, and 70s Disco Vibes on September 4.

The First Thursday events have become a reliable community anchor for downtown Madras, drawing shoppers, families, and visitors into the heart of the city and supporting local businesses in the process.

No registration is required to attend. Just show up, dress up, and enjoy a summer evening in downtown Madras. For more information visit madrasdowntown.org.
