Culver’s community spirit was on full display last weekend as the Culver Bulldog Booster Club hosted its Back-to-School Cornhole Tournament at Shorty’s Taphouse, drawing players, families, and supporters from across the area for an afternoon of friendly competition and community connection.
The September 5 event raised funds directly for Culver School District athletics — a timely boost as fall sports seasons kick into gear and student-athletes prepare for a full slate of competition.
Fun for a Good Cause
Cornhole has become a go-to format for community fundraisers across rural Oregon, and it’s easy to see why. The beanbag-toss game is low-barrier, high-fun, and draws participation from players of all ages — from grade schoolers to grandparents. Saturday’s event at Shorty’s Taphouse had a lively, end-of-summer energy as teams paired up and competed for bragging rights while supporting a cause that hits close to home for many Culver families.
The Culver Bulldog Booster Club has long been a backbone of support for student-athletes in the small Jefferson County community. School athletics programs in districts the size of Culver rely heavily on community fundraising to cover equipment, transportation to away games, uniforms, and other costs that school budgets alone often cannot fully absorb.
Fall Sports Season Underway
Culver High School fields competitive programs in football, volleyball, basketball, baseball, softball, and track and field. With fall semester now in full swing, the football and volleyball teams are already into their early-season schedules, and the funds raised this weekend will help keep those programs running strong through the school year.
The back-to-school timing was intentional — energizing community buy-in right as student-athletes lace up their cleats, spike their volleyballs, and hit the practice fields for the season ahead.
Get Involved
The Culver Bulldog Booster Club regularly hosts events throughout the year to support school athletics. Community members who missed this event but want to support Culver student-athletes can connect with the booster club through the Culver School District at culver.k12.or.us.
Keep an eye out for upcoming Bulldog home games — attending games, buying concessions, and simply showing up in the stands are all ways the broader Jefferson County community can support Culver’s young athletes.
