The Madras High School White Buffalos varsity football team is grinding through the back half of what has been a challenging 2026 fall season, with league games growing in importance and postseason positioning starting to come into focus.
The Buffalos have faced a demanding non-conference stretch to open the year, matching up against larger and more experienced programs before league play fully took hold. Head coach and the program's young core have continued to develop week over week, with a physically demanding schedule that has tested depth and resilience.
Recent Action
The Buffalos headed to Cottage Grove on Friday, September 25, for a mid-season league contest. The game was part of a stretch that has seen the team play away from home frequently this fall — road trips that offer valuable experience for a team building toward the future.
Earlier this month, Madras traveled to Douglas for a September 18 contest, and the volleyball program competed at the Sisters Tournament on September 19, where the squad gained tournament experience against regional competition.
Looking Ahead
The schedule continues with another significant road test when the Buffalos travel to face Klamath Union on Friday, October 3, with kickoff set for 7:00 p.m. Klamath Union presents a physical challenge and the matchup will be an important indicator of where the program stands as the season enters its final weeks.
For Madras fans who want to make the trip south, the drive to Klamath Falls is approximately two and a half hours. For those staying local, updates will be available through the school's athletics page and the Madras Pioneer's weekly sports roundup.
Volleyball Also in Full Swing
The Madras girls volleyball team has also been active this fall, logging matches against 5A programs including Mountain View (Bend) and Banks. While results have been mixed against the larger-school competition, the experience is considered valuable preparation for league matchups. The squad's upcoming home schedule gives the Buffalos a chance to build momentum in front of the Madras faithful.
Support Your Buffalos
With the season entering its most consequential stretch, community support matters. Madras High School athletics encourage fans of all ages to attend home games, show up in black and white, and cheer on student-athletes who represent Jefferson County on the field and in the gym. Full schedules are posted on the OSAA website and through the school's athletics department.
Go Buffalos.
