Several important community programs and events are underway this week on the Warm Springs Reservation. Here is what residents should know:
Columbia River Gillnet Fishery Opens
A Columbia River Zone 6 Commercial Gillnet Fishery opened Monday morning and runs through 6:00 p.m. Wednesday, July 8. Gear can be set and drift gillnets with a 7-inch minimum mesh size are authorized. Tribal members with commercial fishing rights should review zone and gear regulations carefully.
Free Summer Meals for Youth
Free meals are available this week for youth ages 1 through 18 at three locations — no sign-ups required:
- Buff Elementary School: 8:15–8:45 a.m. and 11:00–11:30 a.m.
- Warm Springs Boys & Girls Club: 8:15–9:00 a.m. and 11:00–11:45 a.m.
- Bridges High School: 7:45–8:45 a.m. and 11:15 a.m.–12:30 p.m.
The summer meal program ensures that children and teenagers who rely on school meals during the academic year continue to have access to nutritious food during summer break.
Free Legal Clinic in Warm Springs Today
A free legal clinic is available today, Monday, July 6, from 9:00 a.m. to noon at the Community Action Team building in Warm Springs. Services include:
- Wills and estate planning
- Expungement assistance
- Tenant and employee rights
- Domestic violence protection orders
- Public benefits for those who qualify
The clinic is provided by the Native American Program of Legal Aid Services of Oregon. To make an appointment, call 541-668-8352. Walk-ins are welcome, though wait times may vary. Additional clinics are scheduled for August and September.
Tribal Council Business
The Tribal Council met Monday on Bureau of Indian Affairs updates, Bureau of Trust Funds Administration updates, and realty items. This afternoon's agenda includes a legislative update conference call and tribal attorneys' updates. Tribal Member Concerns will be heard Tuesday, July 7, beginning at 9:00 a.m.
