Residents of the Warm Springs Reservation who live in Simnasho, near Kah-Nee-Ta, or in other remote parts of the reservation now have a public transit option for the first time — a development years in the making that tribal members and community leaders have described as a significant quality-of-life improvement.
Cascades East Transit (CET) launched Route 21 on May 5, 2026. The new weekday route travels approximately 50 miles through remote sections of the reservation, connecting Simnasho to Warm Springs to Madras, with service beginning as early as 6:00 a.m. and running three times daily.
What the Route Covers
Route 21 is a fixed-route service with flex options: riders can schedule pickups or drop-offs within a short distance of fixed stops by calling CET ahead of time. The route connects with the existing Warm Springs-Madras Route 20, extending the transit network deeper into the reservation.
For tribal members in Simnasho, the route provides access to medical appointments, the Family Resource Center, and connections that were previously only possible by personal vehicle — a significant barrier for many residents.
Fares and Passes
Route 21 rides were free throughout May as the service launched. Fares take effect in June. Tribal members who need a Transit Bus card — or who need to replace a lost card — can get one at the Family Resource Center on June 10 from 9:00 a.m. to noon. Tribal IDs are required.
More CET Expansion Coming
The new route is part of a broader expansion of Cascades East Transit service across Central Oregon. Starting June 15, CET will also update its Redmond A and B Flex routes, add early-morning trips on Route 24 between Redmond and Bend, and expand service on Route 22 between Redmond and Madras with new midday runs.
The Route 22 expansion adds an 11:30 a.m. departure from the Redmond Transit Hub and a corresponding pickup from the Madras DMV, improving connectivity for commuters traveling between the two cities and reinforcing connections to Route 21.
“Connecting residents to medical needs from Simnasho to The Dalles or Simnasho to Madras — it opens a lot of doors.” — CET Route 21 launch coverage, KLCC
