Jefferson County residents who suffered losses in recent wildfires will have a one-stop opportunity to connect with recovery resources next Tuesday when a free Multi-Agency Resource Event comes to Madras. Local, state, and federal agencies will gather under one roof to help survivors navigate the often overwhelming recovery process.
The event runs from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Tuesday, November 10, at the Central Oregon Agricultural Research & Extension Center (COARC), 850 NW Dogwood Lane, Madras. Lunch will be provided at no cost, and residents from surrounding communities — including Culver, Metolius, Crooked River Ranch, and Warm Springs — are welcome to attend.
Who Will Be There
Organizers have assembled a broad coalition of agencies to offer assistance in a single location, so residents won't need to visit a dozen separate offices. Representatives on hand will include:
- Oregon State University Extension Service
- USDA Farm Service Agency
- Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS)
- Oregon Department of Forestry
- Oregon Department of Human Services
- Jefferson County Soil and Water Conservation District
- Middle Deschutes Watershed Council
- Oregon State Fire Marshal
- Oregon Department of Financial Regulation
- Agristress Helpline
- Hope Animal-Assisted Crisis Response
What You Can Do There
Attendees can speak directly with agency representatives, ask questions about their specific situation, learn about available recovery programs, understand insurance options, and connect with mental health and financial support services. The multi-agency format is designed to reduce the burden on residents who might otherwise spend weeks tracking down the right contacts.
Wildfire recovery is a lengthy and complicated process — from debris removal and rebuilding permits to dealing with livestock losses, soil damage, and insurance claims. For agricultural producers especially, the USDA Farm Service Agency and NRCS representatives will be valuable contacts for understanding disaster loan programs and conservation assistance.
The Agristress Helpline and Hope Animal-Assisted Crisis Response will be on hand to address the emotional toll that wildfire can take on individuals and families — an often-overlooked but critical part of the recovery process.
